About Us

Olivet’s mission is to tell the story of Jesus’ love for all people without exception.

As people from a variety of backgrounds and stages of life, we seek to be a place of worship, service, and community where all people will encounter Jesus and experience grace.

Olivet is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), and its Eastern North Dakota Synod.

Our History

Founded in 1922, Olivet has gone through many updates and changes transforming it into the community of believers it is today.

The original Olivet was organized in 1921 as “Trinity English Church”, later known as Olivet English Lutheran Church. The church was constructed at the corner of 10th Street and 10th Avenue South in Fargo. In the late 1950s, Olivet Lutheran Church launched a building fund to secure property and begin construction on a permanent home at 1330 South University Drive, Fargo.

Olivet is a living, beating heart of faith; a community of believers assembled together on the solid rock foundation of Jesus Christ. For decades to come, Olivet’s doors will be open to the community it has been called to serve. The table is prepared. You are welcome here.

TREE OF LIFE

In 2001, Olivet commissioned artist David J. Hetland to design the Tree of Life artwork as a permanent work of chancel art. The Tree of Life is a stylized olive tree rising from the chancel platform, with gnarled roots anchored in and emerging from the spaces between the bricks.
