The Olivet Library welcomes donations of gently used books, DVDs, and audio materials. Donated materials will be added to our library based on the Materials Selection Policy, and on the current needs of the library. Donated materials that are not added to the Olivet Library will be passed along to another agency or institution in need, unless the person donating the materials indicates otherwise. Receipts for tax purposes will be gladly given by the church office upon request.
Materials Selection Policy:
The library will make every effort to provide a variety of resources that will be found acceptable to the majority of patrons. It is the responsibility of the patron (or their guardian) to determine if the selection meets his or her own criteria. If a patron finds a selection which they believe should not be on the shelves of the library, they may obtain a challenged materials form (see below). The completed form should be returned to the church office. The library committee will review the item, make a recommendation, and forward all to the pastor for a final decision.
Youth Policy (ages 10 and under):
Materials, whether donated or purchased, shall be age-appropriate and deemed to be acceptable to the majority of patrons. These may include secular as well as religious materials, but as a church library it is our intent to have an emphasis on religious materials. If the materials are religious in nature, they shall be in accord with the teachings of the Christian faith.
Materials, whether donated or purchased, shall be deemed to be acceptable to the majority of patrons. These may include secular or religious materials, but as a church library it is our intent to have an emphasis on religious materials. In order to broaden our understanding of our own faith and the world around us, this may also include some materials which present viewpoints that differ from the Christian faith.
Challenged Materials Form:
Forms are available in the library and are located in a file folder on the library desk.
