There are opportunities to be a part of the the Welcoming Ministry each and every week. We always welcome your participation through being a greeter, and usher, or helping to serve communion. There is a sign-up sheet in the office, or you can call Judy Hauschulz at 235-6603, or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
New Member Sponsor
Three times each year we welcome new members to our congregation: Fall, Winter, and Spring. A fantastic brunch is served for the new members and their sponsors. This is the time you will be able to meet and get to know your new member family. Making them feel welcome, and introducing them to other members is the main function of a sponsor. We encourage you to pray for your new member family, invite them to church activities, and join together in worship if you like. This is a wonderful way to share Olivet’s ministry through your hospitality. Sign up in the church office, or just let Gail Berg know that you’re interested at 235-6603 or email@example.com

Christmas Eve Dinner
Olivet and Nativity Catholic Church join together to put on a wonderful Christmas Eve Dinner and Bingo Night for those who may not have a place to go on Christmas Eve. Fun, fellowship and prizes are had by all. As you can imagine, this requires a multitude of volunteers. Everything from kitchen help, to bingo callers, and even elves are needed for this evening. Sign up begins in November, and all sign up sheets are placed in the Narthex. Have a great holiday with your family by sharing God’s love with others. Please watch for information on this important event.
Once a week on Fridays at 3:00pm, volunteers assemble the bulletins. This takes approximately one hour. Or you could help out with the monthly newsletter! Once a month at 1:00pm, 10-12 volunteers get together to assemble the newsletter, and put the labels on. This takes aproximately 2 hours. If you would like to help out, please call Joyce at 235-6603 or email her at email@example.com
Join the Wednesday Morning Quilters each week starting in September. There are many jobs that need to be done that do not require experience in sewing or quilting! Sorting, ripping, cutting etc… are just a few of the duties the quilters perform. A Bible Study and lunch are part of the morning, as well as coffee and fellowship. These wonderful hand-made quilts are sent all over the world through the Lutheran World Relief Organization in May. Come once a week, or just a few times. You are always welcome. Wednesday mornings 9am-Noon beginning September 12th. (Bus available through RSVP at 893-9089).
Do you enjoy reading? Working in the library is a great learning experience. Library volunteers are needed on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings to staff the library desk. On Thursday afternoons volunteers do many different types of jobs: entering books on the computer, sending out overdue notices, shelving books, cataloging books, and filing. Please join us. Email Sharon McGeehan at firstname.lastname@example.org or Sharon Hoverson at email@example.com for more information.

Churches United for the Homeless
On the 1st Monday of each month, Olivet is responsible for the preparation and serving of a supper meal at Churches United for the Homeless in Moorhead. This can be done by a group, or you can volunteer individually and work with others who are helping that evening. This important ministry needs your help, and is a very rewarding experience for all ages. Please consider this opportunity for yourself, or your entire family. Contact the church office, or call Olivet’s Coordinators: Allen and Kathy Braaten at 329-5409.

Preschool-4th Grade Sunday School Teacher or Substitute Teacher
Being a Sunday / Wednesday School teacher at Olivet is a wonderful privilege! Sunday / Wednesday School teachers need to: 1) Relate to and interact with children; 2) Provide a warm and caring atmosphere in which children can learn; 3) Build relationships with students; 4) Commit to teaching/team teaching for the entire term (Sundays Sept. 9-May 19 or Wednesdays Sept. 12-May 22); 5) HAVE FUN!!! Substitute teaching is also an integral part of our educational program. Although lesson plans and materials are provided, it is important that a substitute teacher is flexible and ready for anything. If you enjoy being with children and have a desire to share your faith, we need you! Please call Michelle Elness at the church office 235-6603 or firstname.lastname@example.org
If you love small children and are looking for a way to plug in a few times a year, volunteering in the nursery is the perfect fit for you! 7th-10th GRADE CONFIRMATION
SMALL GROUP LEADER
Our Confirmation program runs every Wednesday night from 6:30-8:00pm, and we are in need of leaders to spend time with a small group of 5-8 students—caring for them and sharing your faith with them. The first half of each Wednesday will be a large group format, and then we will break into small groups. Confirmation leaders are expected to facilitate group discussion and foster relationships. Materials and discussion questions will be provided. The time commitment is Wednesday nights starting September 5th and going through May 8th, as well as monthly in-service training with your fellow small group leaders. We also ask leaders to help serve at the Confirmation Banquet in April. Call 235-6603 or email Grant Vanderford at email@example.com
5th-9th GRADE SUNDAY SCHOOL,
5th-6th GRADE WEDNESDAY SCHOOL TEACHER OR SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
“It takes a village to raise a child.” Do you like to encourage young people on their faith journey? Consider being a part of a team, to teach our 5th-9th graders on Sunday mornings (5th-6th grade also have a Wednesday School option). Combining a plethera of different curriculum styles–activities, games, movies, bible studies and more, we aim to dig deeper into what our faith means. There will be a training/orientation for all teachers (specifically geared for teachers of Jr. High classes) to meet the other teachers, learn the curriculum, and gather some helpful classroom hints. Please let us know if you are interested in subbing for teachers if the need arises. Sunday School will run from September 9-May 19, 9:45-10:35am. Wednesday School will run from September 12-May 22, 5:30-6:15pm. There are a few Sundays and Wednesdays during the year that we do not have Sunday or Wednesday School, including holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and others. Teaching Sunday or Wednesday School is a great way to share your faith with young people! Call 235-6603 or email Grant Vanderford at firstname.lastname@example.org
Are you willing to share your life with a young person? We all need people around us as examples of active faith lives. We also need strong, supportive relationships to share our struggles and our joys with. As mentors, you are expected to attend two mentor nights with your mentee during the school year, and also meet with them on a regular basis, over the years of their Confirmation. You are encouraged to keep going with your relationship beyond the years of Confirmation. Our hope is not to fulfill an expectation, but rather promote and encourage healthy relationships between young people and adults in the church. You will also be invited to attend the Confirmation Banquet and Service for your student. Call 235-6603 or email Grant Vanderford at email@example.com
Would you like an awesome opportunity to build relationships with our kids and experience new things? Let us know if you’re interested in helping out as a trip chaperone. Our trips vary from 2-3 days to 7-10 days, and include youth gatherings both regional and national, retreats, service trips and others. All trips are a mix of fun, faith, and service. Costs vary with each event. We ask our adult chaperones to pay half of the cost of the trip. As a trip chaperone, you will be involved in small group discussions and devotions, and “hanging out” with the kids by being a positive role model for them. These experiences will change your lives! Call 235-6603 or email Grant Vanderford at firstname.lastname@example.org
Sunday Coffee Server
Each Sunday in between church services (9:30am-11am), coffee and donuts are served in the Lounge and in the Fellowship Hall. Celebrate! Worship Team
Singers and instrumentalists of all ages are invited! Rehearsal times are on Wednesdays 7:10-8:00pm in Room 230. Please contact Melody Peterson or the church office at 235-6603.
This is a wonderful way to share in the ministry of Olivet by reading God’s word during worship services. Readers are needed every Sunday at each service year ‘round. Scripture is given to you early in the week so that you may read and practice at home, or in the sanctuary if you prefer. This is a job that can be done by all age groups. It requires good reading skills and feeling comfortable reading in front of a large group. Consider this ministry if this describes you. Judy Hauschulz will help you find the best date(s), call 235-6603 or email at email@example.com
A warm welcome and kind greeters are an important part of Sunday morning worship. As a greeter you have a special opportunity to extend kindness to everyone who enters Olivet’s doors. Coming in 20 minutes before worship begins, and extending your hand are the requirements of a greeter. Please let Judy know when you would like to volunteer at 235-6603 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org
Preparation of communion is done at your convenience a few days prior to communion Sunday. Wine and juice glasses are poured, and communion wafers are placed in the serving trays. This is a great job for a family to do together, and takes approximately one hour. Call Judy Hauschulz if you would like this opportunity at 235-6603 or email at email@example.com
This important role at worship services requires a warm smile and hospitality. Ushers are welcoming assistants to those who may be visiting, or are new to Olivet. They are a friendly smile and helper to our current members. An usher’s job is to hand out bulletins, help people find seats, collect offering, direct people during communion, help pick up in the sanctuary after service, and be an assistant to the staff of Olivet when needed. This job is needed every Sunday at each service year ‘round. Ushers can do this job one month at a time or just one time. You set the schedule. It’s fun to get a group and usher together. Bring some friends, or join an existing team. Call Judy Hauschulz and set up a time best for you at 235-6603 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are interested in assisting in worship on communion Sundays, you may want to volunteer as a communion server. Servers attend the worship service at which they are serving. Come back to the Sacristy area of the church during offering. Instructions are given by a coordinator. The server offers bread or wine to worshippers who come to receive Holy Communion. This is done on the 1st and 3rd Sunday’s of the month. Contact Judy Hauschulz for coordinator names at 235-6603 or email at email@example.com
This important role in the life of the church would require a once a month, year ‘round commitment. The job of the coordinator includes calling volunteer servers, meeting and giving instruction to servers on Sunday morning and cleanup of the communion items after worship. Training is provided. Please consider this fulfilling ministry position. Call Judy Hauschulz at 235-6603 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org
